(2) Military training, materiel and systems research, development, engineering, testing, evaluation, and demonstration, and materiel and systems fielding activities conducted in or on existing military structures, ranges, maneuver areas, training areas and access controlled facilities that are: i. Compatible with the current use of existing military structures, ranges, maneuver areas, training areas, and access controlled facilities; ii. Similar in type, degree, and setting to ongoing military activities; and iii. Are conducted in accordance with applicable plans and standard operating procedures protective of the environment. iv. And include but are not limited to: live fire; use of existing SDZs and impact areas; emergency response training; use of missile, rocket and artillery-type projectiles; survivability and vulnerability testing; safety and engineering drills; training exercise modification on a Military Operations in Urban Terrain site or in a shoot house; simulated war games (at existing facilities); and tactical and logistical exercises involving brigade size units or smaller (REC required).
